I 've removed everything I should have moved in order to take off the first reduction gear cover. It is loose and acts as though it wants to come off- but it just wont. I ve been working on it the last couple of hours and I am very frustrated at this point. I even stuck a hammer between the tractor and the cover to try to pry it loose but it didn't work -I know you are not supposed to do that, but I am desperite here. Any suggestion would be a great help. Thank you very much.

Tye:

I'm stretching to try and remember, but I think you have to thump that bearing out of its bore that is hiding behind that small quill cover...directly aft of the pulley centerline. I think you have to give that shaft a rap or two with a rawhide hammer and drive that bearing inward while pulling outward on the first reduction cover.

If you 've got it loose it might be that.

Tye,
That bearing come out of the first reduction gear cover not in. It is retained by a C Clip. Make sure you have the nut off the end of that shaft under the little cover. If you do the first reduction gear is probably stuck a little. A little penetrating oil and a couple of whack with a mallet should get things moving. Although you don't want to go wild its a pretty surdy tractor, a little persuasion doesn't hurt. I try and use a rubber mallet that way you really can't mess thing up too much. Post back if you still have trouble.

Tye,

Have you pulled the right brake housing? There is one (maybe two) guide pin(s) that maybe it is hung up on. Your're right, don't force it. Wait for Clooney or others to give expert advice.
