Another fuel question

In a recent thread, using lead-substitute in an all fuel engine was recommended if the tractor was used hard in order to protect the valve seats. This is pretty common advice for old gas tractors of any make, since gas was leaded when they were manufactured. But it brings up an interesting question about all-fuel JD's: was kero leaded at the time the 2-cyls were new, and if not, were valve seats a common problem? If not, why not? Just curious.

Bob, there isn't any lead in kerosene or most distillate type tractor fuels. ~Valve seat & valve wear was a problem on earlier engines & grinding the valves was a fairly common routine.
~Some valve seat protection was offered by the lubricity of the heavier distillate fuels. & remember that the tractor was always started on regular gasoline so there was a coating left from that. Even that light coating would last for a long time to protect the valves. ~I have run a number of my tractors on kerosene, distillate, & other home brew tractor fuels but never run them long or hard enough on non gasoline based fuels to give you a hands on reply
~Deere did have a big problem with the dry LP type fuels & offered exhaust valve rotators & hardened valve seats on a number of the LP tractors to combat valve wear problems..
