In changing oil in a JD model 730-D, I found that it had 5 gal. of diesel fuel mixed in with the oil. Need to know cause and cure before I add new oil.

Thanks guys. Found a somewhat loose line under valve cover. Tightened and changed oil. Just have to run it a while now and see what happens.

Thanks for the help

Doc, Frank pretty well covered the leakage places on that Diesel. One other place & that can happen ONLY if you have an early pump from a 70 or early 720, or the drain hole is plugged on the late pump [possible if the seals are installed incorrectly on the late pump] is from the fuel transfer pump seals leaking. The late pumps have a bleed off [drain] hole so the fuel leaks externally & not internally but if the drain hole is plugged off with an incorrectly installed seal it can allow leakage into the crankcase.
~I will CAUTION you against using your hand with it running to locate a line or pump leak. That fuel comes out of a small line or pump leak at an extremely high pressure & that can [& will] do serious skin damage or even possibly inject the fuel right through the skin & into the blood stream.
~You might look for a shinny washed spot inside the pump cover or valve cover as a leaking line or pump will usually do a nice job of cleaning the immediate area around it.

Doc:

There's only a few places where it can come in, but most likely a loose injector line. Under the pump cover or valve cover, check all line nuts. If you find a loose, that's probably the source. While there look for a possible crack in a line.

You'll probably have to fill it oil and run it to be sure you have it.

Have you noticed any rough running lately ? Loping ?
