took governor case off to see why governor isnt functioning correctly and noticed excessive play between the cam and crank gear the teeth wont jump but you can move the cam gear back and forth a good bit i know on an H the LH cam bearing is eccentric and can be rotated for different settings is there any adjustment on a 37 b? there is no excess motion in either bearings and you cant rotate the bearing housing thanks hal

HAL, what you have is kind of common on the old 2-cylinder Deere's. There isn't any adjustment like on the "H"... I think you will also find that if you roll the crank to different positions that cam gear lash will vary at different places due to valve spring load & the wear caused by the 2-cylinder Deere uneven firing pulses.
~It won't always make a difference but sometimes swapping the main bearing halves from front to rear will reduce that gear lash a little as the bearings wear a little more in one direction..
~Other than that it's either new gear time [if you can find any] or live with it....

the gears dont really show any wear and i got the gov all put together and installed tonight with no excess gear noise from fan shaft or anything else(was worried while i had all those gears off)
so i think i will just live with it and be really happy!!! thanks for the help (once again) Hal
