About a year and half ago I ordered a service manual for my 620 general purpose. When I received it, it was titled 60 series tractors. I assumed that this covered my 620. I have some doubts now as I attempt to look some things.

Can anybody give me the manual number for the 620 tractors.

Thanks in advance

Dick

JD did not publish a 620 Service manual. An I & T manual will be of help. In addition most people i have talked to about this recommend buying the Spark ignition version of the 720 Service manual. There are many commonalities that are much more valuable than the 60 service manual.

Dick:

SM2008, for the '60' series, is the manual that Deere lists in their database of manuals, DB1112 (that's the white catalog that Deere used to give out for free on the counter years ago).

I guess they figure if you needed Custom Powr-Trol, electrical, or carburetor info you would go to the specialty manuals for those systems. Perhaps an I&T book would give you specific information on your 620.

Thanks Frank,

I have all the specialty manuals. I was looking up thermostat replacement in the SM2008 and it is not at all the way the 620 is built. I replaced it about two months ago when I was doing my rebuild. I worked it pretty hard today and the temp gauge never budged off of dead 0. It did not boil over or anything or smoke but I felt it was good and warmed up and I felt it should have come off zero some amount. My gauge worked fine prior to the rebuild and I have no reason to believe it is bad. I felt maybe I may have put the new thermostat in backwards and just wanted to verify. The tractor runs great.

Thanks for your answer to my post

Dick

Dick:

I would think that a thermostat in backwards, depending on its design would cause the tractor to overheat, that is, not open. If you worked it hard, and you got no indication on the gauge, I think I would pull the bulb out and place it in a pan of boiling water. All in all, that's probably a quicker/easier check than to pull the thermostat. Those dog gone gauges are so easy to have fail.
