We have a 1010 that occupies space in the back of the shed. While it has a good motor and the hydraulics and everything else seems fine, electricaly, it's a mess. My brother is thinking about converting it to an alternator with negative ground. Now would be this time to do it, how much trouble will this be? HJ

Maybe I would be too cautious but think about this possibility. You have undefined electrical problems already. You swap the generator out for an alternator and then start looking for problems. Where do you look first? At what you just did or everywhere else on the tractor? I don't think I would fool with the alternator idea until I was sure I had the other bugs out.
