I'm away from my owners manual. Would someone know the maximum ballast weight John Deere recommends? I noticed my Dad's 2020 has 4 150lb wheel weights on each side and 6 50 lb front weights. This works out to 1500lbs! He bought the tractor new in 1968 with a baler, rake, 39 mower and a 3-16 f145 3 point plow. I'm pretty sure all of the weight was needed to pull the plow. The 16.9 x 30 back tires also used to be filled with CaCl. I'm thinking it would be more spunky with the weight removed and a 2 x 16 plow.

Nebraska tractor test book states that the tractor weighed in at 5900 lbs originally, and they added ballast to 7310 lbs. 1410 lbs of total weight to achieve maximum effiency and hp. Sounds like your 1500 lbs is about right.

For drawabr loads with a two wheel drive bias ply tired tractor 115 to 145 lbs per hp pulling 3 to 5 mph is ideal. So 115x50= 5750lbs to 145x50= 7250lbs. Mounted equipment may of course require fore or aft ballast to maintain stability/traction.
