My 455 will run about 20 minutes and then go to the verge of stalling out. It recovers but only momentarily, If I shut it down for a couple of hours it'll go another 20 minutes. I've replaced the air and fuel filters, drained and cleaned the fuel tank, blown out the lines. What can I do now? It's making me crazy. Any suggestions on a fix would be greatly appreciated.

There is a suction strainer in the fuel tank on the pump. This could be clogged. Also on mine, the little valve on the fuel filter base is made of plastic and the groove the lever fit in was rounded out. I shut it of to change the filter the last time and when I turned it back on I wasn't getting any fuel. Yours might have done the same thing but instead of being shut completely off it may just be letting a little fuel through. There is just one screw that holds the lever in place then you can use a screwdriver to turn the plastic valve.

When the tractor stalls with you, is the electric fuel pump still working. I have seen the solenoid and/or the pump quit working after it gets really warmed up. Sounds like an electrical problem in that it always runs correctly for a while first.

The tractor never quite stalls. It recovers after about a minute or two and then immediately repeats itself as I limp it back to the barn. The fuel pump continues to pump i believe. If I immediately shut down the tractor, I can hear the pump again when I turn on the key and I see no change in my sediment bowl such as air bubbles or froth.

Rick, Sounds like you have a air leak on the suction side of charge/electric fuel pump. A leak like this will not leak fuel to notice it but will draw air at a real slow rate while running and when it get enough air in the system the engine will then falter. Check all clamps and hose connections between the electric fuel pump and tank. It may be best just to replace the hose to eliminate that possibility. Also check the suction hose inside the tank that comes from the top for leaks. Good Luck, Dave W.

have you got the fuel filters installed right. They have arrows indicating the fuel flow. I dont remember if they have a screen in the bottom of the tank. Might check the flow from the tank by removing line.

Filter is in correctly, flow is continuous from tank. Turning key energizes fuel pump, increasing flow to filter. I found sediment in the bottom of sediment bowl prior to replacing filter after only 10 hours of use resulting in my origonal response to the problem. Tractor only has 430 hours on it. I can watch bowl fill right up with the key on. Is it possible to have a vapor lock at operating temperature of some kind? I say this because of the time lapse before the problem occurs.
