2cyl seat shock absorber

I know someone has given a number of a shock that will replace the regular seat shock. I thought I printed it and I can't find it now. Does anyone have a replacement number or brand? Thanks Ken

I had a 830 ES where the float ride would bottom out even with the tension springs fully adjusted.

I went to Ace and bought two of the biggest tension springs they had, 8.00 ea, and with some chain links and S hooks hooked them on the cross shafts that run fore and aft on the seat. This arrangement gave enough assist that I could actually back off some of the adjustment with 200 lb on it.

If you try this make sure you preload the spring when you hook it up. Also make sure you have room for the spring to operate as you seat may have less clearance than my 830 ES had. Good luck

I just have a real quick question. How do you know if the shock is bad, or if it's the rubber springs? Just curious. I have a 620 john deere and whenever I sit down, the seat pretty much bottoms out, so I'm assuming it's the rubber springs, correct? Thanks, andrew r.

Good question. Even with the new John Deere shock, it does'nt take much to pull and push it by hand when off the seat. (unlike a new car or truck shock that you can't push and pull by hand.) The reason we replaced ours was that when we pushed and pulled it by hand you could hear "gurilling" (sp) as if there was air in the oil inside the shock. As two the efford to push and pull it, the old one was about the same as the new one, except for the "soft" spot when it "gurilled". While makeing that sound just before it is fully closed, there was a change in the efford to much easer and there was a slight jump instead of a steady in/out. You would really be surprized the differance the the seat coution with the springs make over the seat coutions that are just foam on plywood. It's about twice the price, but well worth it on a tractor that is beening used. A show tracot that is for looks would be a differant story, but one trip to the old bone cruncher doctor and you covered the extra price.

Are you doing the rubbers and the bushings too? The only one that I know of that has the rubbers is MINN-KOTA Repair Inc. www.minnkotarepair.com We just did our 630 and one of the 730 seats. We aslo put on the coustions with the springs in them. When the 630 was in the JD Dealer getting the elec ing put in, there were many guys that crawled up on that seat and were impressed. I paid the big bucks to DEERE and got that shock. Whole show with fright to do the seat with the new coutions, rubbers and new bushings and the JD schock was $530.

I finally found a very good match from Monroe shocks for the 620 float ride seat shock absorber.

Gabriel has no information on their WEB site or through technical support on shock absorber sizes. They only keep information on their current production models and databased only by vehical application.

Monroe has an excellent database in different sorts. You can download or read on screen a list of shocks by size. It is a ten page download plus a two page mounting code sheet.

For my 620 standard Monroe's part number that fits is 5752. The only difference is that the mounting bolt through hole is 5/8" where JD's is a 1/2" through hole. I can live with that.

I purchased it on line from www.rockauto.com at $16.24 plus $7.84 shipping I believe out of Wisconsin. Total $24.08, JD's price here is $70.22 including tax on a stock order at a ten day delivery. A savings of $46.14. I would prefer OEM parts and I am a die hard, fanatical JD fan but I could not bring myself to spending $70.00 for one shock absorber.

www.rockauto.com boasts having available any shock absorber made for any auto, foreign or domestic since 1947.
