720 Diesel oil leaks

I just purchased a 720 diesel to farm with, and have a few problems. Right after I started mowing with it, it started leaking oil somewhere on the flywheel side, and throws the oil up at you. Any ideas on how I might fix, and how expensive it might be? Also, have a leak (red fluid) out by the PTO shaft. No idea what the red fluid might be. Last, I shifted over to the high side, drove up the road and home, and the tractor was stuck in gear. Couldn't move the shifter. I took the cover off and put the shift forks back to neutral, then put it back together, and so far so good. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated. This is a pony tractor that was converted to electric start, and has 3pt, power steering, and 1 set remote hyd. Thanks for any advice.

Ok Clooney, thanks for the reply. I will take the flywheel cover off tonight and try to see better where the oil is coming from. I did some more mowing with the tractor, and so far no more trouble with the shifter. It seems to only leak oil out the flywheel side under heavy load.... (would it make any difference if I turned off the power trol pump?) So I laid a rag over the flywheel cover so it doesn't throw the oil up at me any more. If I keep all the fluids up will it hurt anything to run it with an oil leak there? This is a work tractor, and I have a lot of work to get done. Thanks again for the help. Jeff

Jeff, you are going to have to find out exactly where the oil is coming from on the flywheel side before we can tell you how to repair it. More than likely either a L/H crankshaft seal or the power-trol pump. As for cost, nothing is cheap to repair on a 2-cylinder diesel. ~On the rear leak, again you will have to be specific on exactly where the leak is coming from. Probably either the PTO shaft seal, or it's oil running down from the power-trol area. As for the red oil, sounds like generic hydraulic oil or automotive auto trans fluid.
~On the shifter problem, that could be anything form worn shifter shafts, to worn detents, to failing interlocks, to ? If it happens again try to figure out what gear it was stuck in, see if it is the same gear as this time [that will tell us a lot] & see if the lever is also stuck or the lever moves & the trans is still suck in gear.
~Sorry for the lack of definitive answers but you didn't give us much to go on..
