Hi we have a 4020 which runs good but the 3 point wont raise up all the way. Every once in a while when you start the tractor the steering hydraulics and 3 point wont work at all for a couple seconds. Then everything works like it used to. The dual remotes work great but the 3 point only lifts about half way up. It does not matter if it has a load or not. What could be wrong? I changed the filter today and no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

Matt

The problem of the lag after startup is because all the oil in the oil cooler has returned to the transmission . There is a 10.00 fix for the problem from your dealer. It`s a a check valve you install in the line coming out of the tranny.I had the same problem also.

It's pretty easy to adjust the linkage. There is a threaded rod and clevis at the bottom of the console. Just give it a few tuns in or out to adjust. The hardest part of the whole deal is removing the sheet metal to get to it. I'd try this first before doing anything else.

the lag in hydraulics when you start is probably because oil leaks back to the tramnsmission from the front pump when started. you have to get the transmission pump going to replenish the oil. If you have a synchro and hold the clutch in the transmission pump doesn't work,

These tractors had a quite complicated set of adjustments for the 3 point including one that you need a long, really long, extension on a 3/8 drive with a 9/16 deep socket fastened securely to the end. You go in through a plug in the back of the tractor and adjust linkage inside. Seems like they got out of adjustment quite frequently and I believe the side consoles were probably worse. You need to get ahold of a book that details the adjustments and go through them completely.

What kind of book would detail this? Thanks.

you need the 'technical manual' from deere (not the older 'service manual' that do not include the side console)

Sounds like depth control or linkage needs adjustment. Is it a side console or old style with controls on dash?
