Is the rubber grommet where the diesel fuel filler spout comes up through the cowling supposed to be painted or left black.
Thanks Gerald R

Gerald:

I wasn't around when those tractors were new, but I have quite a few photos of tractors at the expos, and they are all natural black. I used a new one from a 4440 because the '70' style ones were NLA. The new one says "Fuel" in raised letter on it.

I forgot to state that mine is a 2 cyl machine, 1960. Where you talking about the 4440 fitting a 2 cyl or 3 cyl 830? Maybe it will fit both?
My JD dealer also said NLA. The original part is in poor condition and I was going to Armorall (or paint) it until something better was available.
Thanks
Gerald

Gerald:

Yeah, the 4440 grommet will fit your 2 cyl 820 just fine. They'll have it in stock. Mine (70 Diesel) was all sun-baked and deteriorated. This new one looks great. I don't mind the words "FUEL" on it. I think that might be what most folks are using now.
