When did Deere start to build the cyclone B with square axles, and single lever 6 speed trans? Other than the water pump on the very late models, were there any changes toward the end of production? Thanks

John, can't find my book just now but the 6 speed trans started with the first late styled B in 47. The square axles came in late 49 or early 50. There is a serial no. break listed for them but there are some tractors that have them ahead of the serial no. break. Can't think of any changes after the decals were moved forward in the 50 model year. Don't know if the choke was moved like the A but it may have been. I will find the GM or 2-CYL. mag and see what it says.

When did the decals move ahead?? My son has a 50 "A" my dad bought new, with the original manual, that we are in the process of restoring. Pictures in the manual show the "John Deere" both forward and centered. By the serial number, it is close to the end of the "50" production year. It has the "51" style case rear wheels with the extra holes. What is the correct location for the decals ???

Loren, they don't list a serial number that they moved the decals, just say it was during the 50 model tractor. If you think your son has a mid or late 50 I would say they go fordward. (lettering should start or stop 1 1/2 inches back of the seam of grill and hood)

Loren, July-Aug. Two-Cylinder, 1998 says decals in some of it's photos taken in summer of 1949 shows decals moved forward on the A and B's. It says distance is 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the leading edge of the hood.

Thanks for your response. I'll check again, but the serial number is one of the last 300 in 1950.

My B is an early 52 with the original decals in place. I can measure if you want.

Based on our very late '49, your decals should be forward. Also, the axles on ours are square, built shortly before the 49/50 model year break.
