A co worker has lost pto, steering, loader, 3 pt.,ect.. nothing at all, not sure on brakes I immagine they are flat. I am not familiar with theese but I'm am guessing a transmision pump failure. The loss was pretty much instant durring use. Is there a roll pin or coupling or keyway we are looking at here? He says the main pump apears to be intact on the front( the coupling looks to be OK) Seems to me it is loss of all including the PTO got to point towards tranny pump. I cant imagine pluggage ( filters and the sort) to be so sudden and complete. What do you think? Any tests that could be done now wopuld be apprechiated. Is this a common type of failure for this machine? Thanks again

transmission pump is driven by a hollow shaft (pto shaft) from a torsion damper on the clutch cover. a failure of this damper (or holow shaft) results in an imediate loss of low, and after a while high pressure hydraulics.

I am familiar with the 2950 hydraulic system which should be pretty similar. The PTO and the hi/low use low pressure fluid. If you lost them, you don't have any low pressure. The power steering runs off high pressure, brakes only use the hydraulic fluid (gravity feed to master cylinder-no pressure on open station), There is is a low pressure warning light on the dash (red gear) which should go on at less than 120 psi. Turn the key on without the engine running to see if it works. If it stays on with the engine running, it should confirm this. There are a bunch of things that can malfunction without lossing the pump but it will be hard to diagnose with out a technical manual. All the piping to the PTO and hi/low cylinders is internal. There are a few valve type components which are accessable from the exterior. Good luck

I too,am not familiar with them either, but, there are other possibilities.Im not sure about the clutch arrangement. On a power shift the torsional damper can give up and nothing other than the engine will turn, not even the pump.need to consider how the pump is driven.

Check the main pump de-stroker that keeps the main pump from building pressure until after the engine starts. Pull the main pump feed line and see if the trans pump is charging the main. Is there a loader or something that has been added recently? G-man is the whiz on the new stuff.

WJW,start with simple things first, filter and screen.PTO is operated by trans.pump.Get gauge and check trans.pump pressure.I think its suppossed to be around 150 PSI(Been long time since I worked on one)Try engaging PTO as brake on PTO can leak.Try changing HI-LO.Could be a leaking valve on both or a broken line going to either valve. These valves get trans oil before main pump.Hyd diagnosing is a lot of FUN.A high pressure leak can cause hyd's to fail.Jim B

When you figure it out lemme know! One item I have been in search of on mine is.... The hydraulic return flow filter. Shows it in the 2955 tech manual but I can't seem to find it on my tractor. I say it simply doesn't exsist but if'n it did...Bettcha it is way beyond replacement. I have zoned in on my hydraulic failures and found I am not getting any fluid to the main pump at all. Nothing going into the cooler, resevoir etc.. Pump is dry. I filled the pump and the line going into the cooler and viola...Rockshaft lifts like a new one..But as soon as the pump runs low of oil...Nothing is coming back in to replace it. PTO brake failed years ago and so the pto turns at a moderate speed continuously but not enough pressure to engage and hold. Hi-Lo never worked after a JD mechanic replaced the PTO clutch. I know, There are so many problems who knows where to start first... But After working through the obvious simple stuff Ie..Filter/suction and lets not forget the screen in the main pump...I delved into all the valves under the shift cover, and am slowly but surely following lines from friends, tractors and tech manuals to an education in hydraulics 101. I am motivated by the fact that it can't get any worse but it can sure get alot better. Start somewhere...stay focused...eat drink and sleep the possibilities and delight in the simple things like rockshaft lifts at unsuspecting times!
