How much value does a wide front add to an A? Have a couple spotted for a friend, a 45 and I think a 50 to 52 or so. Just wonderd the price ranges. They are asking about double what I see most row crops sell for.

Matt,

Are you talking about a Model A with a wide front or are you talking about a 'true' Model AW? It makes a big difference. A 'true' AW will have the special rear axle housing, longer rear axles, probably 42" rear rubber, and a 'tall' (longer spindles) wide front. Unfortunately, a lot of people out there think the designation 'W' simply means wide front. That is so not so, and misleading to the buyer.

What if there is a row crop A with the extra long rear axles, but has a rollomatic? (which could have been put on, since I don't know the history of the tractor)

AC,

What is the casting number on the rear axle?

AC,

If the tractor has the long rear axles, then it has the special rear axle housing. So, it left the factory as an 'AN'(single 16" front) or 'AW' and, since it has the split front pedestal, someone took off the wide front or single front and put on the Roll-O-Matic. Check with the JD Archives and they can tell you in what configuration it left the factory.

Give me your email address. The tractor is in Wis. and I live in Michigan. I can get it, but it will be a few days or a week. I would appreciate it...AC

AC,

I hesitate to put my e-mail address out there for the spammers to latch onto. Here is the information you need. The casting # on the rear axle housing of a 'true' AW or AN is A3271R. If your tractor has that casting #, it came off the line as an AN (single front, 16") or AW (adjustable wide front with 'tall' knees/spindles). You can call the Deere and Co. Archives with your serial # and they will get back to you in a few weeks with all of the information available about your tractor, including whether it was an AN or AW. I think this service costs $15.00 (you can use your credit card). The number to call is 866-288-0141. Let us know what you find out. Post here if you need additional information. Where do you live in Michigan? I grew up in the Midland area.

Thanks, I will get up there and check here pretty soon. I understand about the E mail. I am near Bention Harbor, which is right on the lake in SW Mich. Once again, I appreciate it. AC
