Fuel sediment bowl problems

I'm trying to get fuel to flow from the tank into the sediment bowl and am only getting a small occasional dribble. I removed the bowl assembly to make sure I didn't have any trash in the tank and got a good clean flow. The tank has been sealed with a sealer kit and I have no rust. I blew out the sediment bowl openings with my compressor, replaced and opened the valve all the way and still get only a small drip from the tank into the bowl. So I then replaced entire sediment bowl assembly with a new one out of the box and get the same results. I really thought that the gas flow on the 2 cylinders is supposed to be gravity flow. Am I supposed to have some kind of vaccum or just missing something?

Thanks for the feedback. It was a simple fix and all is working well now. Apparently, I had an air lock due to the glass being too tight against the gasket.

Randy,

I went through this with my model 50 the first time I removed the bowl. It's normal. Start your tractor and the bowl will fill right up. The problem is that the bowl can't fill unless gas (or air) can flow from the outlet. If the fuel outlet is connected to a carb, and the carb bowl is full (hence the carb needle and seat closed) then there is no where for gas to flow.

Regards,
John

Randy, try turning the gas on but then unscrew the bottom sediment bowl hold up nut so air can enter around the top (where the glass bowl and gasket seals to the top metal assembly) and if gas flows in then, shes simply air locked and thats normal. Of course, if the carbs bottom drain cock is open gas will flow or if the line is off where it enters the carb also. If it dont, gas has to enter the inlet pipe and/or mesh screen up inside the tank and then on most it flows sideways out the 2 lil side horizontl holes to fill the glass bowl. I place a little grease on the top of the glass bowl and that top gasket and also on the hold up nut threads.

Does the problem occur with the gas cap off? If the problem only occurs with the cap on then you may need a new vented cap. Since you had the tank sealed maybe the sealer plugged the vent in the cap as well. Assuming the cap was on during the sealing process.

Just idea and something easy to check.

Thanks,
Scruffy

Randy, the gasoline has to go somewhere before new can flow into the sediment bowl. Try opening the carb drain cock or loosening the fuel line at the carb. ~If the gas can't GO SOMEWHERE that's already in the line it won't allow any new to flow into the sediment bowl [they call that an air lock condition].
~If opening the fuel line doesn't get it to flow then you still have a blockage in the tank fitting....
