Just bougt a 49 B from canada, the guy said it was overhauled, you know the drill, bored new valves etc,I get it so I figured drop the oil, check some stuff like any normal guy would do, crankcase full of water, find the top of oil filter housing busted, looked like bowser took a dump in filter housing, fan shaft bolts busted on front housing, oil pressure line rusted in two, rear axle seals out, some one torched rear axles, supposed to be all original, also said no cut in hood, wrong;;;also lots of other stuff, I know a lot of you guys will say I should have looked first, But just once I like to be able to trust a guy, Just tired of being so lucky;;;Thanks for letting me bend your ear,,,Bill --- I also will say the guy advertises on this site regularly,,

Bill, an experience like that is EXACTLY why we bent over backwards financially to buy our '52 A from our cousin right here in town. We knew where the tractor was sold new...right here....; who owned it from day one...they did...; and that it never slept outside in the rain or missed an oil change. It has been a huge relief not to get any awful surprises. Oil leaks from settin' around; yes; engine or gearbox troubles no.

BILL, I TOO HAVE COME ACROSS GUYS LIKE YOU DISCRIBE, I HAVE FOUND THE BEST ONES TO GIVE YOUR MONEY TO ARE OLD RETIRED FARMERS AND RANCHERS. IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO GET THEM TO PART WITH THEIR TRACTORS, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS FOUND THEM TO BE IN GOOD REPAIR. YOU CAN TELL THEIR LIVELYHOOD DEPENDED ON THE OPERATION OF THEIR TRACTOR. I REALLY SHY AWAY FROM SOMEONE WHO IS NOT FIRST OR SECOND OWNER. THE ONES THAT IMPRESS ME THE MOST, ARE THE ONES THAT TELL ME "YOU KNOW I THINK I WILL KEEP THAT OLD TRACTOR FOR WHEN THE GRANDKIDS COME BY". THAT IS OK TOO. I FIGURE THAT MAKES ME A LUCKY FELLOW. Sounds like he is a brother or cousin to Chr__. My philosophy is: Anyone with a lot of tractors to sell isn't to fussy about what he buys and is not anymore fussy about how they are described when sold. Best place to buy is from the farm where they were worked or better are still working. I bought one in Canada but went to look at it and am well pleased. Kim had a few for sale and they all looked good.
