'51 A jumps out of gear when put under a load....one of the axles has a worn bearing and has a little play in it.....could this cause it to jump out of gear? I know it ought to be fixed anyway but this is my 2nd puller and I am on a really tight budget..... leaving it stock and don't pull it very often and do not want to tie up a lot of money

I am working on an A right now with tranny trouble. Pull the cover and look at the gears. See if any look excessively worn. You may want to get a pry bar in there on the sliding gear shaft and use it to feel for play in the bearings. If the shaft moves when it is pryed, tear 'er down and replace the worn parts. It isn't too bad of a job getting it apart. 1 good day's work if you don't run in to a problem. I took pictures to refer to as I re-assemble mine. E-mail if you have any questions. I'm sure Clooney and G-Man can offer a lot of help too.

Yep----I would suspect the bearings in the transmission. Expecially the one on the end of the sliding gear shaft that fits into the primary input shaft gear. If this is worn, the shaft wobbles and causes the gears to move. Also check the bearing on the end (outside) of the Sliding Gear Drive Shaft. (primary reduction gear shaft}
Part numbers are: AA6619R, JD7558R and JD7664R.
You might have others also.

You might be able to adjust the fork shafts, inside the cover behind the flywheel. but if it has alot of use and most do, you need all new tranny bearings, hope this can help, this is what it took in mine.
