I have a '64 4020 with syncro trans. I would like to be able to use a 3pt attached finishing mower and control the height of the mower with the 3pt hicth, but can't get the 3pt to work the way I want. I want the 3pt to only move so far up or down based on where I position the rockshaft, the left most lever on the left side of the dash. If I pull the lever part way back, the 3pt should move so far and stop. The hitch currently goes all the way up or down when I push the lever up or pull it back. If I place the lever in 1 "exact" spot, the hitch will stop, but what a pain to adjust the height with this technique.

What setting, on the lever on the bottom right side of the seat makes the 3 point follow the rockshaft lever?

Thanks,
Ray

There should be a depth control stop on the three point lever. I have a 1966 4020 and the three point lever is on the right. The external cyl control is on the left.

Is ther a small level on the dash under the three point lever? If there is this is the lock for the stop control. Pull up on the lever and see if you can turn it . This controls the tightness of lock on the stop. It acts like a cam lock . Up or down locks the stop in position. The Stop slides up or down or could be out of track or missing. Once you get the stop set you should be able to pull your three point lever down to it and your mower should return to the same depth. Then if you need to go down further past the stop you move your lever to the right and you can go on down with out moving your stop.

You should use the D detent on the load/depth control. If it is indeed a finishing mower, using the L/D control is not the way to go. The guage wheels on the finish mower should be used to control cutting height. Put the hitch all the way down and let the wheels control the height. This way the mower will follow the ground contours. Even if the L/D control is used it is very doubtfull that you will get a good looking job. The L/D setting is used for controlling a piece of tillage equipment not a finish mower.

My finishing mower has only 2 rear gage wheels. That is why I need the 3pt to maintain the front height. In the D detent, does the 3pt travel with the rockshaft lever...eg if you pull the lever to the 4, does the 3pt go about 1/2 way and stop. Then if you pull the lever to 6, the 3pt drops a little more then stops. This is the function I am looking for. Is that what the D postion does?

Thanks,
Ray

Yes, in the D position it is supposed to work the way you want it to.

It is currently "frozen" in the D postion. I can't move it to the LD or L postion. Currently, the 3pt either goes all the way up or all the way down. If you position the lever on the dash at a spot in the middle of the range, the 3pt stops. If you push the lever forward past the "spot", the 3pt goes all the way up, and vice versa if you pull the lever back past the "spot". Are there any other levers or valves that can affect the way the 3pt works?

Thanks,
Ray

Sounds like the cam follower in the ?????rockshaft control valve housing??? is off track; if so, you'll either need a service manual or someone with better communication skills than I have to walk you through the "fix"..... .....
