My power steering pump front seal was leaking so I tore it apart. You guys were right-it's a tight squeeze getting the pump/fan out...had to unbolt the radiator and tip forward. I also found more problems. My 3 shafts and 2 couplings from the gov. to pump are all wore badly (except for one coupling/shaft end which is froze together and not worn....odd!) Is this normal? Also the inside of the tube is built up with rust colored grime. Are these shafts expensive to replace? I am looking at the rear shaft that goes to the governor. I pulled the rear snap ring but the gear won't come. Do I need a puller? Also my parts book shows a second snap ring at the front of this shaft. Mine does not have one. I see a groove in the splines that looks like the spot for one. Problem is the spring that is on mine covers this groove and seems too stiff to compress. When I took it apart the spring and a washer was all that was between the front ventilator bearing and the rear coupling. Is the spring suppose to keep the shafts and couplings tight or is it to keep the rear shaft assembly and bearings tight-that's what I'm wondering..possibly the snap ring at some point came off.

50man, what are you working on? I would guess it's a 50 by your handle but we don't want to give you the incorrect info.
