I looked at a 1010 JD the other day. I have always had farmalls and know very little about JD. * The 1010 is a tri-cycle with "Roller-Matic" front wheels? Was this a option or standard?
* The 1010 I found is also Off-set to one side like a cub or a A-Farmall. Was this standard or a option?
*The 1010 has 36" rear wheels. Was this a option?
It also has 2-Pto's 540&1000 rpm.
*It has power steering,3 point hitch, 1 remote hyd.line, spin on oil filter, and is in pretty good shape. I would like to know some information on the opitions I listed and What model it might be? I have read about RS, U , and Ect. Model 1010's. Thanks very much,

Josh'
Your 1010 will probably be a late model (1964-65) R.(Row-Crop) Jot down the serial number and ask the JD Dealer what year.
The Row-Crop model came as an offset with choice of front ends. Narrow (1 wheel), Adjustable wide front, fixed or Rol-a-matic . Power steering,Live 540/1000rpm PTO, Hyd outlet, was optional as well as an optional 3 piece seat.
The 36" rubber was on the Row- Crop only. They made a lot of different models and I don't know about all of them but I had a 1965 row crop and it was a nice one. A great utility tractor.
Green Magazine did a nice article on the whole series a few years back. Volume 2 of the John Deere Tractors and Equipment book(1960-1990)by Don Macmillan and Roy Harrington shows 1010's on pages 110-114. Good Luck

Thanks FireDog,
I will get the book you mentioned. The 1010 I am looking at seems to have all the options that were available. The sheet metal is in perfect condition. It will make a nice parade/Work Tractor.
Thanks.

Have you done a search on this board for 1010? There are quite a few messages farther down that pertain to 1010's that would probably interest you. As far as the model details, R stands for rowcrop, S for special, U for utility. The serial number tag with model number on it is on the right side of the engine. Mine is an RU. Somebody was here the other day talking about an RUS.
