Cody, the basic answer to your "will an alternator fit" question is yes. Only a custom made mounting bracket will probably have to be made. ~As far as what you need? That depends on your access to different alternator types, your budget & how creative you are. ~By far the easiest to install & make operate is a Delco 10-SI, but that alternator is mighty big to look proper on that H. ~If you do go with a Delco 10-SI [that's a standard mid 70's to mid 80's GM type alternator]. You will want to find one of the early 35-45 amp alternators [non-air conditioning 6 cylinder car] as the later 60+ amp alternators are awfully hard on those fragile H fan & governor gears.
~While I havent ever installed one on an H, some of the smaller Motorola alternators or foreign import alternators would probably work fine & look a little more proportional to the tractor size.
~You definitely want to use an alternator that has an internal regulator as the external regulation alternators are hard to wire & the installation gets complicated in a hurry.
~You might want to talk to your local auto parts store to see what they have & the price range of what you need.
~Once you decide on an alternator, post back & we will come up with a wire diagram to properly install that type alternator on your H.
~Due to the low power consumption on the H you might want to consider just using a stock generator as that will require no bracket modification & is real easy to install & wire on the H.
~Let us know what you decide to do & we will help you install it
