on my 51' model 60, the carb slowly drips gas from the bottom of the bowl. I have already replaced the bottom seal and top gasket on the bowl. The float and needle valve/seat seem to be ok. What else could cause the carb not to hold? Also, does anyone know what the idle and load screws should be set at? The carb is a Dtlx -81.

I think your saying you replaced all the sealing gaskets/ washers ect.. as the other post states Roberts does supply superior ( my two pennies)products if you haven't put new stuff in. I went one step further I was afraid (and be afraid) of overtightening on mine so when it wouldn't stop dripping I applied some Gastrola thread sealant as suggested by Mr. Clooney. I put ever so little on both rubber washers on the bottom of the bowl and a little on the threads of the stem I suppose if you can't get the load stem to stop you could put it on the threads of the needle below the O ring but I would be concerned with it getting up into the carb, caution and long thought first. Gastrola is a name brand of a teflon sealant that is used for fuels, petrolium prducts, and gas. It does not break down and does not get hard dries to like chewing gum texture. good luck

60 power-
If you have replaced both the gasket at the top of the bowl, and the gasket under the nut holding the bowl on, there are two more things to try. First, shut the fuel off and unscrew the brass adjusting screw that is centered in the nut which holds the bowl on. You will find an o-ring on this piece - replace the o-ring, being careful to note in which groove the old o-ring rests. Put a little grease on it and put it back, bottoming the screw, then opening it back about 2 1/2 turns. It's purpose is as an auxilliary source of fuel, in addition to the fixed jets in the carb.

While you have the piece removed, on the end of it you should find a small, tapered piece which can be moved around. If all you find is a pin, the tapered piece is stuck in the neck of the carb and needs to be removed. You will need to get a new adjusting screw if that is the case.

Finally, if that doesn't solve the problem, contact Robert's Carburetor Repair www.robertscarbrepair.com and get a couple of the soft gaskets he sells - put one on each side of the hole through the bowl and replace the nut. You might also get a new gasket for the top of the bowl as his are soft and work better on old surfaces. The fuel level in the duplex carb is right near the top of the bowl, so sealing there is critical.
