H starting problem

I cannot routinely hand start my completely restored H. It runs well and rarely misses after pull starting. The Mag has been professionally rebuilt as well as the engine. Spark timing is right on. Shows 30 lbs compression in both cylinders, but seems to blow back through the intake valves and blows oil out of the air cleaner.Any one know a good two cylinder engine person I can talk to?

Check your valve adjustment and cam timing. You don't have enough compression.

Sounds like the cam timing could be off, intake valves are starting to open at TDC, causing blow-back (& low compression readings). Typical compression is about 75 psi.

Thanks to both who responded. I suspect you are right about cam timing. Would being only slightly off be partially dusguised when I pull start it, but make hand starting difficult?

Yes, it might need pull starting to overcome the low compression. Of course, other things act that way too - pull starting can hide spark problems, mag impulse spring problems, etc.

30 lbs does not sound right i would retest also the blowing indicates valves cracks or timing not correct
