Clutch pedal has way too much travel. Tractor will stop when pedal is pushed down but gears grind when trying to shift. I have a JD repair manual and have read a few of the archive posts here but still have some questions.

What could cause the sudden loss of pedal? I have taken the clutch apart and there is nothing stuck or rusted. At what point on the fingers is the throwout bearing supposed to catch?

I appreciate any help.

I replaced the clutch plate and disc and have the same problem. I assume that the input shaft is somehow not disengaged. Either synchro is worn, plate not releasing or clutch hub rubbing continuing the spin on the shaft preventing the synchronization into gear, Clutch is supposed to be adjustable. have yet to figure this out myself. I received the tractor with the bell housing shimmed with washers but the machine was not able to go up hills. input anyone?
