I finally got my tractor to run right. It isn't perfect but she pulls now. The problem was the throttle rod. It was adjusted to short so the governor was not operating. I took it out and plowed this afternoon with my massey harris 3-16 and it pulls good. I am in heavy sod ground so I won't be breaking any speed records but it is doing a great job. I am plowing in 1st gear at 6-8 inches deep in sod on clay soil. The tractor doesn't die now under load it raises the front end up. The only problem now is I broke my hitch pin (it was a little small for the job) and pulled the powr-trol plug out so I need a new sheer washer. Do they still make these??

Wes, don't throw that shear washer away yet. If they are not broken they can be reused. We did that many times on our A. When they "shear" they usually get cup-shaped and if you hammer them out straight they very often can be used again. Keep some new ones handy just in case but don't automatically throw them away. Hope this helps. Mike

When the washer sheared it plain broke. I made new ones out of copper washers that work great. I just cut part of the washer out so it snaps in place. The washers were only $1.50 each compared to what they want for the JD part.

Wes:

JDParts.com shows that shear washer (A 3141 R) available at $11.21 ea. Possibly cheaper at your dealer.

Congratulations on getting the old girl up and running!
