Does anyone now where one can go to find a complete list of J.D. models and their production dates? (with pictures and descriptions, if possible)

Sure would be a nice thing to have when tractor shopping or while hunting for collector items. I know there were alot of options available on most production runs. I was just looking for a general model and date list to continue educating myself.

I'm interested at least in the farm tractor style in a year range of say the 50s through the-70s.
Any ideas?

Thank You

Try www,johnnypopper.com . There is a very good area to click on and get general JD two cylinder specs.

Ah, sounds like what we need here is a tractor timeline. This would be a good thing for a beginning tractor enthusiast to have. It would help to put tractor models in a time perspective that those who grew up in the 2 cyl era take as common knowledge. Since the last 2-cyl tractors were out of production and the 4020 was well on the way to fame when I came around in 1964 I can understand the confusion that all of the letter and numbered tractors can heap on a newbie to the vintage tractor scene. (And then multiply this by Allis, Farmall, Ford, Massey, Oliver and all the others.) Fortunately the guidance of a friend along with countless tractor shows & magazine articles have put this very interesting aspect of agricultural history in proper perspective!

If you have a JD dealer nearby they may have reference books that they sell. I have a couple of nice hard cover books that take you from the very early years when John Deere made impliments and wagons thru the last years of the two cylinders. The do explain the changes over the years but don't get overly technical.HJ
