We had to get a carb kit put in, but we got the B running tonite. Thanks to Clooney and John T for their advice!

When we got it running, we now have really crazy high RPM's. Could not get the RPM's down by moving the throttle or linkage where it hooks up to the carb. We had to shut the tractor down using the choke. The throttle linkage was stiff from sitting unused, got it loosened up though before we started the tractor.

It has a schable carb. (probably spelled it wrong)

Where do we go from here? Did I mess up the governor when I took off the Magneto???? I know NOTHING about the governors on green tractors. Don't even know where it is!! HELP!! Thanks in advance again guys!!

Dave, I'm a little confused on your problem. I really don't want to guess at your problem & need more information to make an actual repair suggestion.

~You said.."Could not get the RPM's down by moving the throttle or linkage where it hooks up to the carb",,,Are you saying the RPM's wouldn't come down EVEN WHEN you manually [by hand] moved the carb top lever ALL THE WAY TO THE IDLE STOP?... If so, you either have a an improperly adjusted idle stop screw, or the stop pin is bent, or the throttle plate inside the carb is not centered. You might want to try completely removing the throttle rod from the carb & then trying to control the engine speed by hand. If that allows the engine speed to be controlled by hand [at the carb top lever] your problem ISN'T in the carb but is either in the governor, governor/spring/lever assembly, or linkage.

~Make sure the carb rod between the governor & carb is adjusted correctly..With the carb & governor arm held wide open the rod between the two should be adjusted to be 1 hole short of going onto the carb levers top hole.

~Things to check...
--Make sure the cotter pin for linkage retention at the top of the carb isn't hitting the carb body [common problem].
--Make sure the governor top lever & spring are assembled in the correct direction & the spring is on the correct side of the arm [can be assembled incorrectly]
--Make sure the carb's top lever will [manually] fully travel to the idle stop position [tractor running & not running] [could have a carb problem]
--Make sure the carb linkage rod isn't hitting or rubbing on anything.
--If you can't find anything obvious in the above, pull the carb & look at the throttle plate for being centered in the carb bore & no loose screws in it.

~Bottom line is; if you manually move the carb top lever to the idle stop & it still won't idle down you have a carb problem or vacuum leak in the manifold or carb..If you just can't move the carb top lever to the idle position when it's running but can when it's not running suspect a governor problem. If you can't move the carb's top lever to the idle stop even with it not running suspect a linkage problem, cotter pin problem, or something else in the throttle linkage system not adjusted or hanging up..

~The more info you can furnish from the above things to check the closer we can guide you towards the actual problem....

Dave take a paper clip and stick in top hole on mag capthen(ask wife to hold and flip mag.impulse if she slams the sh+@$* out of you you got fire) just kidding about wife holding paper clip, hold paper clip close to frame and flip impulse if you get a nice blue spark mags ok,if you don'thave some one to check mag.Now timing tractor is a little more involved, remove flywheel side spark plug, remove valve cover and turn flywheel (facing flywheel)counterclockwise till #1 exh. valve just starts to open, then turnflywheel clockwise just a wee bit,at this time you should observe the LEFT HAND EXH marking on flywheel at the 3 oclock position aligning with dash mark on cover just behind flywheel if all this comes to pass and ok,procede to time Mag.provided you haven't moved flywheel since the last step, turn flwheel counterclock wise till LEFT HAND IMPULSE comes up on the 3 oclock position aligning with mark on case just behind flywheel,at this time the driving lug in gov. housing where mag. bolts up this lug should be in the horizontial position,if lug is in the horizontial position mate lug on mag with gov. housing lug and you should have to rotate mag. toward the rear of tractor and when you get a distinct snap of the mag bolt it down you are in time, now that wasn't so hard and you didn't even get slapped any more problems Clooney or John T. can come to our aid. Gman
