found almost new complete clutch fork assembly for my early 60. has very little excess movement, snaps in and out very good, now question is, how far should clutch handle move foward after it snaps in. right now it snaps in and only has about a 1/2 inch movement after it snaps in, is this enough, just doesn't feel right as the old one had a lot more movement after it snaped in. also should adjustment be made on adj. rod or the 3 adj. nuts on inside if changes are ness. thanks, Don c

Don, the clutch lever travel [after snap in] is basically controlled by the distance the operating sleeve travels after the toggles go over center [minus any hand lever pivot & rod clevis, & fork shaft wear. So you are basically stuck with the travel you have unless you want to take it apart & machine the operating sleeve or replace parts.
~As long as it "snaps in", "locks in", "stays engaged under load & rough ground", & "doesn't slip" you are ok with what you have. Don, you asked..."should adjustment be made on adj. rod or the 3 adj. nuts on inside if changes are ness"...None of those adjustments will change the travel after lock in enough to help your problem. Just adjusting the rod length only changes the hand lever position in relation to the clutch fork shaft [changes the overall lever position]. Adjusting the 3 nuts will effect the over center pressure & lock-in power but really won't change the lever overtravel after over-center lock-in. Loosening the 3 nuts a little MIGHT let the toggles go over center a little sooner & let the lever travel slightly farther after loc-in. Once the toggles actually go over center, the amount they over-travel doesn't help & if the travel is too far will hurt clutch holding ability. The big thing is; AS LONG AS IT STAYS LOCKED IN under all conditions you will be good to go....
