As usual, you are getting good advice from these guys. I recently replaced the belt on my JD 430 L&G (after 18 years!) and it looked like a real puzzle at first. I got the picture from the manual and laid it out in front of me and it went right on. There was about a hundred ways the belt could have gone on and only one of them was correct so if you don't have your manual, go to your dealer and get a copy of the picture out of their service or parts manual.

not too bad a job if you keep your head. belt will seem too long but you have it strung wrong. Goes good when you have it right on some there is a picture how belt goes on mower deck. Worst is taking mower off . same way to sharpen blades. seems like engibners could have made that easier. good luck.elt runs on flat side on tighter

If you don't have an owner's manual, you really need one for that chore. Chances are you're going to have to drop the deck and you will definitly want the book for that. I don't have a 425 but I have changed belts on several JD lawn and garden tractors and it's not a bad job as long as you got the book in front of you.HJ

HJ,

Good advice for the gentleman! I have less mechanical ability and dexterity than a cub bear with boxing gloves, but, with the Op Manual in front of me, I was able to semi-easily change the belt on my LX-178.

Same here Stan, The first time I serviced my mom's LX-188, it was easy to drop the deck and put a new belt on it with the book as a reference. This year she couldn't find the book and what a struggle it was. There is no way I'd tackle that job on my 265 w/o the book. Take care Stan.HJ

HJ,

I vaguely remember not having to take the deck off as far as the book said, but, as I always say, "A mind is a terrible thing" - "to waste", I mean.

Hope things are going well for you.

Stan
