Does anyone know if any new manufacture gas pistons (high compression) are available for the unstyled A. I am planning to run a gas (cold) manifold on the tractor and use it, so I am interested in reliable power - not tractor pulling. I'd also be interested in any experience anyone might have as to whether much of a power increase can be had from one of these tractors using this combination as compared to stock pistons/hot manifold and running on standard gasoline.

Thanks

There are several sources of new high compression aluminum pistons in the Green Magazine. I bought a set from Hinrichs Repair (add in Green Magazine)for my 47 John Deere A with good success, they can get you the bore and compression your looking for. Phone number 815-778-1900 or 815-499-6580. Hope this is of help!

there is adifference in the unstyled an the styled A's. the earlier ones had a cutout for the spark slug. this is why no one is making them yet that i know of. i had a freind of mine bring me some experemental ones an they didnt work. be cause of the spark plugs on the unstyled johndeeregene

this is what my experience was when i rebuilt my 36 A. i couldnt find any new high comp pistons at that time so what i did was to have my head an block plained quite a bit. it seemed to work ok when i got done. just what i found, someone might know more then i.
