Well I am sure I am not the first to have this problem But here goes 37 A had sat out for 20+years withNO gas cap some bird decided to nest there .Today I started to remove the hay I dug blew vacumed a full bushel and it looked like only chaff remained so dad said just burn that little bit then vacume the ash out, sounded reasonable. It burned for a full hour took all the paint off the tank(a plus) , But also sweated the fill neck off. but it clean inside now. How wood you guys have gotten it out???

Ahh, you guys are fortunate that birds decided to nest inside there instead of mice! The fuel tank of my newly acquired 41 B had walnuts in the fuel tank when I got it.WITH the fuel cap in place! It seems that several generations of mice had taken up residency in that cozy little spot between the hood on the top of the main fuel tank. Need I go into explicit detail as to the effects of mousepiss on bare steel?

How the mice intended to hull those walnuts is still a mystery to this day.

Mickey G:

I have been there and done exactly that ! Had our '48 "A" with a tank packed to the gills with bird nesting. Used a hook made out of coat hanger, stirred, vacuumed, air hose, then ended up removing the tank and used lye and chain to dislodge that last of it. Took a couple of applications.

These days I follow up with phosphoric acid and pressure washer.

I don't think I would have had the courage to light it !
