41 B running to Fast?

After two long years, I have my 41 B back together and running. I actually got to drive it shortly last night for the first time in 15 years. Now I have a couple of questions.

1. When I open the throttle all the way, the fast idle should be running at 1350rpm with out load according to the specs?
2. If the governer is not workng correctly, will the engine start to run too fast? I assume the governor is meant to keep the rpms down.
3. This weekend my friend is going to bring over a hand tach so we can see how fast it is running, if it is over the 1350RPM, how do you slow it down?

I had to bore out my block to bigger pistons as everything I had was worn out. The pistons I have in it now are Aluminum, and are the same size as a late model B. So i do know that I will have a little more power, it just seems that its running to fast. The slow idle seems just right. The engine runs good, it is strong, i almost lifted the front end off the ground taking off. When I went in reverse, it seemed to keep getting faster and faster. Way over the 5 mph the book says.

Thanks for all the advice.
Matt

Before you get inside the governor do check the throttle linkage for length. Change the length of the throttle linkage to see if it has an effect on governor performance If the adjuster (next to governor arm) is rusted stuck it is something you will want loosened up even if you need to proceed with disassembly of the governor.

Well since no one else is taking a crack at it I might offer my .02. My brother has a '39 B and he had the same problem. Open up full Throttle and she would run like crazy. Took governor apart and low and behold the weight pins had broke at one time and there were no weights on the gear. In the process of fixing it now. I can't say if that is your problem but that was what happened to us. Gives you an idea any way. Hope this helps.
