A friend picked this drill up at an auction last week. It is serial# 5411. They told him it was built in the 60s or 70s. Even though it is on rubber,it looks older than that to me.

Post below is more right than I am. Went back and looked again. NEW FOR 1958 refered to the optional liquid fertilizer attacment for the drill not the drill itself. It is pictured behind a 530 dated 1958.

The "B" drill was introduced in 1946. They sold very well. A serial number/model year list is not known to exist, but given that serial number, I'd say it was built probably sometime in the late 40's.

The "B" drill came out for the spring of 1958 planting and had the lettering JOHN DEERE VAN BRUNT. It replaced the "EE" drill. Some time in the 1960's VAN BRUNT name was dropped and just the lettering JOHN DEERE was centered and a leaping deere decal was added in the upper left hand corner of the box as looking from behind. Don't know when production stopped but it was still being made in the 1980'S. It was the most popular drill around here.

Should have said the new lettering was changed over by 1966. Have the sale sales lit from 1958 and 1966. The 1966 sales lit showes the new lettering.
