Rod,

Before you go out and buy a new Tach you might want to contact United Speedometer (909) 684-0292 e-mail: [email protected]. The tach you have now should be a Stewart Warner or maybe an AC. They should be able to repair yours and make a new cable and housing assy. if you need it. They might even be able to do a complete restoration of the Tach face. I have used these folks in the past and they did a fine job for me.

Jeff

If your gear drive is stripped out (which I doubt) give me an email and I will let you know a potential source for the whole unit. I been there on a 420. If it is the cable assy, I would go for the whole thing (housing and inner cable) from deere at the same time. You dont want to make this repair a habit lol. Good luck!

Rod, the tach. offered by Deere now, is your best alternative. It is nice and looks great, but the old ones I have replaced had black and white colors only in the face. The new replacement ones will be more colorful, with red, black and white, and possible some green in the face. But they would still be considered (correct) as this is all that Deere offers. I am not sure if anyone is reproducing them in black and white or not.
Also --- if your tach. drive gear is stripped, it will cost you about $70 for just the gear, the tach. is around $100 The cable is available in either the inside cable or the whole housing and cable together. Also that gear is the same as some of the old cottonpickers and combines. If you need the numbers, let me know and I can furnish you a list of which ones are the same.
