Was wondering, is it advisable to pull flywheel on a JD A to "clean and paint", or better to let sleeping flywheels lie ?. If you pull it, How is it done. Thanks in advance

I did not take mine off to paint but have had the flywheel off for other maint many times. Never gave me a problem. Set up end play per the manual.

Painted 2 JD's and left the flywheels on both times.I agree with the others,leave well enough alone. If you take your time you can probably slide some touch-up on in behind there.

If your flywheel is tight with no slop or knocking, don't pull it. As someone below said, "let sleeping flywheels lie."

Keith I pulled my wheel to clean and paint there were strips cut from a pop can put on the crank. I put them back in the best I could but could not get the thing to stop clunking so I had to get another wheel I wish I had never took it off.BottomD.

If the flywheel is tight and crank endplay is correct, I wouldn't move it. Seems like asking for trouble.
