Dave, you ask.."Is it possible to put electronic ignition on a 2 cyl with a magneto (no battery)"...It's possible but you will need some sort of an external power source such as a battery. The transistors in an electronic ignition need a stable power source to operate. The coil would also need a constant power source to give the performance you need.
~Most of the parts would have to be hand made as there are no commercial E.I. units made [that know of] for a mag. ~Even if you could hand make the parts & rig a hall effect switch to trigger off the points cam, or use the existing points to trigger a transistor switching device, you are still limited by the mags lack of spark advance mechanism. ~ Switching to a Delco distributor that will allow the installation of an aftermarket E.I. unit is the easiest way to go but will still require a battery to be added. Also, if an early tractor [probably is as it has a mag now] the mag/distributor is driven off the governor so it fires on every stroke instead of only on compression & that will limit what you can do with it cam wise. So if you want to run a cam you would also need an LP right angle distributor speed reducer [not cheap].
~If you want to go without the battery [sounds like you want to] there are some alternatives such as the Super Hot Competition Magnetos from Roberts Carb [or other mag vendors]. That magneto comes with a real hot coil as well as a schedule 8 high output magnet rotor. The magneto only fires on the power stroke eliminating exhaust stroke blow back. Those things work pretty good on high performance tractors with a cam & high compression but won't do much for a stock tractor. The trouble is cost, those hot mags go for just under $400.00.

Hi Dave, short answer is NO, cuz both the electronic ignition control box plus the coil it supplies current to requires a battery. Most are made to modify existign Delco Battery powered distributor ingition systems. Theres all sorts of tinker things a guy might make to still use the mags points as a trigger, but if you just have a mag and no battery, the off the shelf units made for battery powered coil and distributor ignitions aint gonna work. Probably the easiest and cheapest route is to first convert to a Delco coil and distributor igniton with a batetry and generator, then add the elec ingition module inside the Delco distributor and then upgrade to a high performance coil to better utilize the improved solid state current switch wooooo oo hooooo ooooo lol.

Good Luck, Ol John T
