Hi guys:

I was wondering if the narrow front ends are the same from the 20 to the 30 series (can I install my 4020 narrow front to a 4430?) You see very few 4430's around with a NF on it.

Thanks!

John

If the tractor came through with a wide front, it cannot be changed to narrow front. Your only option would be to locate an entire n/f assembly at a salvage yard. This entails removing the entire front casting, steering motor, etc. As far as I know Deere never built a 44 with n/f, only 4030 and 4230 and very few of them.

Ok guys, how can I tell if it has a convertible pedestal on it? I know for sure that a NF was an option from the 4030 to the 4430. I thought the 30 series was the last of the original NF's. A loca guy has a 4430 with a NF and it looks pretty sharp.

Only a guess here, but like on the 50 to 730 the steering arm for the wide fronts uses two of the four holes that the roll-a-matic bolts to. I would look and see how the steering arm bolts on and remove the bolts and if you see four holes messure the paddern. Then see if it matchs the 4 bolt paddern of the roll-a-matic.

The John Deere dealer at Granton Wisconsin had a 4030 pictured in his ad last week in THE COUNTRY TODAY newspaper with a roll-a-matic and no cab or rollguard. Looked naked.

He's talking a New Generation -30 series. Were they even available with a non-convertible pedestal ?

The front end supports on the Generation II 30 series are different, depending if the tractor was equipped with the regular wide front end, or was equipped with the "convertible" option--which could be equipped with a regular double-knuckle front end, Roll-O-Matic, or a wide front end, or single front wheel. Unless a Gen II tractor is equipped with the "convertible" front end support, you cannot install a Roll-O-Matic, double-knuckle or single front wheel.
