My wife and I have a John Deere model 40 "all fuel" tractor as part of our collection. We know there were around 340+- built as fuel burners and all but 112 were exported. We were wondering where the other 111 were.. Do you own one of these..?? Know somwone who does..?? We understand most were shipped to the Southeast.. Thanks.

I have one that my Daddy bought new in 1954. I learned to drive on this tractor. Unfortunely my dad let it freeze in the late 50`s and a gas head was installed by the john deere dealer and they scraped the small tank and control valve and rod. But the serial number says all fuel so it can be changed back. This is the only oridginal tractor in my collection and is priceless to me. By oridginal I mean one that has never left the farm. I am located in Brooklet Ga. and we have a club with one hundred members called the Southeast Ga. Rusty Relics.

I have a model 40. I do not know what you mean by "all fuel". It has been in my family since the early 70's. It is a great little tractor.

Clyde, I have had a couple of (all fuel) model 40 tractors in the past few years, and sold them. Not sure what production numbers you mention. Here is a breakdown of (all fuel) model 40 tractors, according to Green Mag.
Tricycle (T)..... ..... ...473 built.
Standard (S)..... ..... ...653 built.
Crawler (C)..... ..... ....282 built.
Utility (U)..... ..... ....141 built.
Two-row utility (W)..... ..60 built.
Special (V)..... ..... ....3 built.
Hi-crop (H)..... ..... ....35 built.

Hi Wayne: Yea, This is a 40 T and your are correct that it was 430+- and not 340 +_ made. I cannot seem to find any others around.. Just looking.. BTW, Connie bought the starter tank from your friend in Mississippi. Very nice tank.. We paint this weekend. Pictures in a week or so..

Clyde, don't think I ever had a 40T all fuel, I did have a 420T all fuel a couple of years ago. There were several all fuels shipped to my area, might run across one down in the Delta. Glad you were happy with the small fuel tank, ((expensive huh?)) Send me photos when finished,,,,,
