Info needed on a JD plow

I ran across an old John Deere hand plow. It has one blade (or whatever you call them- I'm a city boy)and has fittings on the front to attach it to a horse or something. There is no seat or sulky attached.

The odd thing is that it is all steel including the handles. I've seen wooden handled plows but never one all steel. It could be that a good welder made the handles, including the long parts that attach to the body but I don't know. It looks like it came that way but I don't know.

The only markings that I could find are on the top of the "H"shaped steel that makes up the "backbone" of the plow. It reads "John Deere D". I couldn't find any numbers.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Larry, John Deere did indeed make quite a few models of walking plows with steel handles. I can't find a plow with the beam number "D" but there were plows with beam DC, DE, DJ, and DU and sometimes the letters/numbers didn't all get stamped clearly. Each of those beams was used on a variety of plows according to plowing conditions. Most were made over a range of 10-30 years or more.
