Back to the 70 diesel...I know most of the ones i have seen do not have an air intake precleaner, but the ones that did had the inlet added to the front and to the left of muffler. This 70 I just got has the inlet/precleaner assy beside the muffler. The parts book doesn't show it this way. any ideas???

TB..... you're right in that most 70D's did not not have a precleaner. When they did, the hole for it was in the nose cone not the hood. A 720D with precleaner has the hole in the hood. It may be that someone had a 720D donor tractor that it's parts ended up on your 70. What's the s/n of your 70?? I recently saw a 70 that had a steering console and all the sheet metal from a 730. Had to check the s/n to confirm it was a 70. Later.

70D:

Are you SURE it's right across from the muffler ? The piping sold to put the air stack on a 70D was very different from the -20 series. The top of the aircleaner was re-designed on the 720's to accept the stack which placed it across from the muffler. Not saying it couldn't be done, but using 720 parts would be the easiest way.

If you have a 70D parts book look on page 35-2.

TB:

Are you sure you don't have a 720D ? The serial number plate would start "70..." to be a '70'. With all the 720 type things you are finding, either you have a 720 with some 70 tin, or a 70D with alot of 720 parts.

On a 70 the optional top-mounted air intake is just ahead of the muffler.
