What is '49 'A' worth?

I am considering purchase of a '49 'A' from some relatives and we need to figure out what a fair price would be for this tractor. It has the standard tricycle front end and some type of hydraulics. It is not a slant dash. It has electric start only. It does not have a 3 pt hitch or fenders. The engine is stuck, tires have good tread but are badly cracked. Paint is bad (surface is rusty) but sheet metal appears to be straight and complete (hard to see in dark shed with corn picker apparatus installed). That reminds me, this tractor presently has a corn picker mounted on it (JD227) and hasn't been run for about 20 years. The gas was very bad and the inside of gas tank looked sludgy. I don't have any idea how many hours it has on it, but the gear shift has a groove in it where it slides against the grooved plate that has the shift pattern in it, and the steering shaft has a lot of freeplay in it (up and down) as well so I'm guessing it has a lot of hours on it. Not sure if it has a mag or distributor (forgot to look). I think the wheels are cast, and they don't have fluid in them probably because the tractor was used with the picker. It does not appear to have any parts missing. We live in the northwest part of Illinois.

Thanx in advance,

John

Don't take this wrong. But with the picker on it and stuck. Very very cheap. I can pick up a running late A for $750-1000

Tell them you will take it off there hands. For free to $100. My 2 cents.

John;If that A spent it's life on a mounted picker ,that would explain the worn steering, Here in Mi that tractor would bring no more than 750 dollars, Lary
