Just found you question on page 3. The 4th point (chain) is a very important ajustment. Thats what causes the cutterbar to return after kicking back. After the mower is on the 3 PT raise the mower 8" to 12" off the ground and the frame is level with the ground, The chain must be tight from the mower frame to the drawbar. This chain keeps the mower at that hight when you lower the mower. The ajustment screw that goes from the drawbar to the arm on the mower also must be tight as this is the kick back return control. We have replaced the screw with a chain, and so has JD in the parts. The long chain that goes from the drive head to the pulley on the frame back to the drive head is also a very important ajustment as that controls the float on the cutterbar. Wrong ajustment here will cause to much weight on the inter shoe and you will plug. The 350 was a total differant design from older JD mowers. Kind of like I guy I knew that ran a JD 14T baler for years and could ajust it in his sleep. Then he got a IH baler and totaly had it scwewed up as every time he made an ajustment on the IH baler, he was thinking JD 14T baler.

I looked at several different 350 mowers at farm sales but for what I needed a sickle mower, I couldn't justify what they were worth. I did however bid one to $635.00 before the other guy got it for $640.00. Boy was he ever pi$$ed at me because I was the only other one bidding on it. I just assumed that the only purpose of the chain was to activate the mechanism that raised the cutter bar when the 3 pt. was raised. The 350 is definetly a more advanced mower than my #39 but mine just does a little trimming around the lake and ditches a few times a year. If it would be cutting hay all summer I'd think I'd need to trade up. Nice talking to you.HJ

We use 350 mowers rather then a haybine as we have rocks, and ant hills. We also have grass hay. 20% Alafala hay is OK for the guy trying to get 25000# of milk out of a black and white cow, But it is way to rich for a Hereford cow. Alafala hay takes too much P fertilizer just to get protien that the Hereford doesn't need. After weaning it's calf till 3 months before it calfs again a Hereford gets by real good on 8% to 10% hay. We want only enought Alafala mixed it the stand to feed N to the grass. And we turn out the horses with the cows in the winter. Another reason for grass hay. If we wanted a pure stand of Alalafa we would probley go with a hay bind but it's too much unneeded machinery for grass hay. We run the two 730D with the two 350 mowers and mow what the baler can bale in a day. We mow in 4 th gear We leave a high stuble and let the hay lay flat on the stubble til it is ready to bale. Then we have the two JD 567 wheel rakes one behind the 630 and one behind the WF 730D raking in 5th gear double windrows, we rake in 5th gear. The 730D with the NF is chasing us down the windrow with the JD 510 baler. We usually mow one day, leave the hay lay the second, then rake and bale on the third day. Plus the 350 mowers clips the open pastures faster then a rotory mower. We use the 430C with the JD 506 rotory mower in the brush.
