From the previous answers, there is a wide variety of experiences. To add mine, we pulled a 7' Blount disk with a floating drag behind our '41 B. The Blount was a lighter-built disk with smaller blades than the Deere KBA. It worked the old girl, and I think 2nd gear was about as fast as we could go. That B, along with a team of Percherons (and a lot of long days) put in about 170 acres of crops each year, mostly corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and hay.

My dad used a 6' Deere KBA disk with his without any problems and he also pulled a two disk(24" diameter disk) Deere 92 breaking plow with it. This tractor is on my restoring list right behind the H I"m working on right now. By the way both the H and the B are 41 models. Also dad always ran his B on gas.

We pulled an 8' tandem disk with my '39 B in Kansas, but probably not in 3rd gear! I also drove a ton of miles with that combination disking down corn & milo ridges, before we would cultivate it the first time. My neck still twinges 40 years later from the death grip requied to keep the B on the ridges and turning my head around all the time to ensure I wasn't digging out the small plants.

We pulled a 6ft tandem and an old tumble type stalk cutter with a 43 B many years ago. Third gear as best as I remember.

Iv'e got a 1955 50LP, should be pretty close to the same as your B, I pull a 6-1/2 ft disk no problem. If it's really digging I have to pull it in 3rd, if it's not pulling hard I can do 4th.

your 49 B is 5 more horspower than this 39 unless yours is a distillate. That would be the reason that you can pull a six foot while he can only pull a 5'.
