Well, I took off the crankcase cover and sure enough, the square oil pump drive coupler was broken. Dropping the oil pump was easy. It would have been easier, however, if my arms were another 4" longer! This may sound stupid, but I can't find this part in my parts book. Does anyone have an idea of what the JD part # is? Thanks for all the help with this, guys!

Just put a coupler in a B and the new one is built much stronger. It is round on the outside so there is more meat to it. Don't know if this is good or bad. Maybe a broken coupler is better than a broken something else.

What condition is the oil pump in? There had to be a reason the coupler broke, so I'd look it all over reall good to make sure the rest of the assembly is up to snuff.

I checked out the oil pump last night. It seems to be in great shape. I think that the breakage had something to do with the ocean of water in the bottom of the crankcase. I think that we turned the flywheel a couple of times in the past few years when the temperature was below freezing.

Part number is B 250 R for all models of styled "A", according to the scriptures.

Thanks Pappy! I used that number and found it in the book using the numerical index in the back. Call me blind! I'm going to order it today.

Bryan:

Don't feel bad man, I had to do the same thing. I would have never known where to look.

Good job Pappy !
