I REBUILT THE FRONT PEDESTAL ON MY 630. THE WHEELS TURN EASY TO THE LEFT NOT SO EASY TO THE RIGHT. THE MANUAL CALLS FOR A SPECIAL ADAPTER TO SCREW IN A PRESSURE GAUGE. I DO NOT HAVE THIS ADAPTER SO I PUT A PRESSURE GAUGE IN BETWEEN THE STEERING VALVE AND HOSE.(DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.) STEERING TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT I GET 500 PSI, ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT I GET 300 PSI. THE BOOK SAYS IT SHOULD BE AROUND 1100. I ADDED WASHERS TO THE RELIEF VALVE AS THE BOOK SAYS - NO DIFFERENCE. I TOOK ALMOST ALL THE WASHERS OUT - NO DIFFERENCE.I HAVE A FLOW OF ABOUT 150 PSI.
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANK YOU
JEFF

JEFFFROMIN, installing the pressure valve where you did shouldn't make any difference. You might try removing the valve stop screw [where the manual said to install the adapter] & install a shorter screw [maybe 5/16"X3/8" with a washer under the bolt head]. I don't think it would matter but that called for adapter doesn't act as valve stop like the original stop screw does.
~Your pressures do seem mighty low [if it can move the wheels on a hard surface I would think the pressure readings are incorrect].
~Try installing a shut-off valve between the gage & steering gear. If you close that valve & the pressures are still low, you either have a bad gage or the pump isn't getting the job done. If you close that valve & the pressure comes up to over 1000# you have internal leakage in the steering control valve or the vanes are still leaking in the pedestal.
~If the pump pressure tests over 1000# you might want to do a vane leakage test [its in the manual]. ~It would probably be a good idea to verify the gage accuracy before basing anything on the gage readings
~If the steering works good now & all you are worried about is that dissimilar steering effort, dont try to adjust it with a gage...Put the front wheels on a high traction area & just bump that valve [fore & aft] VERY SLIGHTLY until it takes the same effort to turn the steering wheel in both directions.

CLOONEY,

THANKS for your help. I rebuilt the vanes and the cylinder looked good - I hope that is not it. I'll check the gauge. It turns fine to the left, maybe the spool is off. I used the gauge w/the front end off the ground - will try the other way. Hope to get it soon, gotta get crops in. Will post back. Thank you again.
Jeff
