I did a search and did not seem to find anything relating to this. The fuel turned to varnish in the system on my tractor and I am having a difficult, ok imposible, time geting the fuel nozzel out of the carb. I have soaked in parts cleaner, used spray carb cleaner, and about every other cleaner, (this has been going on for about 4 weeks) I am considering drilling it out but wanted to ask before I did. Not sure it is a good idea. I have 3 of the little brass screws to drill out as it is.

Just like to add to the rest of the very correct advise, put your finger on the inside of the nozzle to make sure it is moving as you tighten up the threaded bolt. I many times use a self drilling sheet metal screw on a battery powered drill, the only thing you need is a fender washer, and some common sense. The self tapping screws means only a fraction of the time needed. This is the type all metal building folks use to anchor the steel on the building to steel ---not wood --purloins. Good Luck Dave

mwilkins, if that nozzle is stuck in there from rust & old fuel you will first need to tap some threads in the bottom of the nozzle [about 1/4" deep], then use a piece of all-thread & some washers & a nut. Give it a little tightness on the nut & see what happens, if it feels like the nozzle won't come out you might try a little heat on the casting & nozzle. If that nozzle is stuck real tight there is a chance you will pull the nozzle apart & will then have to drill it out. DO NOT pry on the top of the nozzle as that will make not function correctly..
~On those brass plugs, first heat them until dull red, then let cool, then if the screw slots are torn up use a little pair of serrated ignition pliers on the sides of the screw heads...

Dear MK, The last difficult nozzle I extracted, I selected a tap size just big enough to cut threads down inside the nozzles inner bore, then had to use a bolt with 2 jam nuts jammed up together to avoid pulling the threads on the bolt, and washers and pulled the nozzle out successfully. On the brass drill plugs, I heated them just intil the flame tip gave off different colors (a funny green/blue), then with a good sharp right sized screwdriver, they all came out. I then used the extra long aircraft drill bits (No. 40 and 53 for my carb) I bought from Roberts Carb Repair to drill the 3 passages (see his website, http://www.robertscarbrepair.com/tip1.htm,,, the drill bits are for ONLY passages behind the drill plugs and NOT for the smaller passages) and then used mig welding wire and guitar strings to clean all the other smaller passages. I light wire brushed the nozzle and be sure you clean out ALL its small litle horizontal side bore holes.

Good Luck n God Bless the USA

Hey MWilkins, Yes you will probably need to tap and then extract the nozzle with a bolt. I do recommend seeing the Roberts carburator repair videos. You will not likely have to drill any more screws out again either. I learned a whole lot with the videos. Check your local tractor club members and you will probably find them. easy
