Morn'in,

The MT manual states using 10W oil for the Hydraulics...since there are many other types of alternatives today, can a fella use hydraulic fluid instead? If so, any good recommendations?

thanks in advance.

Tom, like you said, Deere designed those units to use non-detergent 10W oil. If you buy all the rebuild parts from Deere, they are still like the originals and made of the same material. Therefore I don't see any point in going to a more expensive, modern, Hyd. fluid. There is nothing cheaper than the straight 10 or 30W oils available from Wally World or any parts stores. I have noticed a difference when using 30W in the winter (seems to cause more viberation in the lines) 10w seems to operate quieter. Some folks swear by Hy Guard from Deere, but I believe it is because they have later model machines.
