Anyone-
I am installing a pony distributor "kit" - Coils, wires, condensers, points, etc. The kit I have is emphatic that the supplied resistor (a small coil of wire) must be used or the coils will be burned. I cannot find an existing resistor on the this tractor anywhere (a 730) The wiring behind the steering pedestal is a rats nest of extra wires and splices, etc, so I could have missed something. Where should I be looking? If there is not one, could that be the reason the ends were broden out of both coils?
thanks in advance
mark

Mark:

Typically that resistor is mounted on the ignition switch. It is connected between the IGN and RES terminals. Now that's on a 70D, so it might be different on your push button start 730. If you have any doubt, you can hook it for now at the distrbutor lug, abd feed your 6V hot into it there until you get a chance to spiff up the wiring. It might have a cooler start because this way you are obviating the by-pass wire which feeds 6 volts direct during the cranking of the starting engine, but it's the safest shortcut.

If you run straight 6 volts to the coils they will not last very long. The resistor will drop that to around 5 volts.

A wiring diagram can be found a deerehunters.com (add www. before it).
