Hello folks. Last year we bought ourselves a nice late model 7000 Corn Planter. Yesterday we got it out of the shed to prep it for planting and we have encountered a few problems. After finding out that we have 36" rows set up on this unit, the book told us there are three types of fertilizer augers that could have been put in. (dry fertilizer unit)So, my question there is there a casting number or something to determine which ones we have? Also, we were gonna set the planting population and fertilizer speed, and all the numbers of the sprocket teeth dont match up with the numbers given in the book. So, whats going on here???? We are lost without a cause on a Sunday morning:) Anyone that has been around these units, please drop us a line, it may get us in the field a day sooner. Thanks to anyone who writes:)

Sounds like your owners manual is not the correct manual for your planter. Or the sprockets could have been changed. The older 7000 planters used sprocket numbers from 7-15 on the drive and driven shafts. The newer 7000's had sprockets that were double that.

We went to our neighbors with our problem and his operators manual had our numbers, the LOW numbers, so that means the dealership assumed that our planter was a late model, because they gave us a reproduction operators manual for the big sprocket planters....thank you very much for that bit of information!! Just the fertilizer augers to get figured now:)

Trial and error on the augers.....keep track of what you put in vs the acres planted. Thats what I had to do as the augers decrease in size over years of rust. I couldn't read the casting numbers...there are I think 3 different styles of feed...low, medium and high rate. I ended up having the medium and had to set planter for 275# to get 250# per acre. Good luck you will enjoy your planter. I do :-)
